An expanding broad-based network
With more than 190 TV channels on offer in some 23 different languages, naxoo
is one of the largest digital cable TV providers in Europe. Launched in 1986
as Telegeneve, following the incentive of the rulers of Geneva to avoid a
city full of satellite dishes, the network rapidly reached its objective—to
lead in fibre optic home enter-tainment cabling and leisure technology. Today,
the digital product is known as naxoo and is both proactive and dynamic,
striving to bring you the latest and the best in programming and image quality.
naxoo has already expanded into the Valais and will be endeavouring
to cover Lausanne in the near future, offering highly competitive
subscription rates, as well as an unrivalled menu of multilingual
and multicultural TV and radio. Enjoy programmes from the US, the
UK, Canada, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Spain, Albania, Poland,
the Netherlands, Sweden, Serbia, Greece, Croatia, Armenia and Romania.
There are also broadcasts in Arabic and Chinese.
Choose what you want to watch
Can’t decide which programmes you want? Let naxoo help with its dedicated
packages, which can be selected on their own or according to groups of interest
and language. These include news, the Disney channel, cartoon network and other
dedicated children’s TV, sports (EuroSport in English or six other language
choices), a movie package, music (including MTV), natural history (Vie et Decouverte)
and adult entertainment, as well as Pink TV. Or, make your selection based
on your home country or language.
The third alternative is an attractive opportunity to tailor-make your own
home entertainment package—choosing something for everyone in the family
from a specific list of channels available. For example, pick Sport, the BBC,
CNN, a premier movie channel and Disney. It’s a personal TV menu and
you select what comes direct to your home. Prices start at CHF 15 a month with
12-months free decoder rental.
“In the city of Geneva, the cable penetration rate is 92% so it is available
to almost everyone, with no need for unsightly satellite dishes. Plus, digital
broadcasting means cinema-quality direct to the home,” said naxoo CEO Antoni
Mayer. “In Geneva we have both tradition and technology. The tradition
of a multicultural city and now the latest technology for communication and broadcasting,” he
added.
See what you want, when you want
Another exciting development in digital programming is the launch next year
of the PVR, or personal video recorder. This will allow viewers to see what
they want, when they want, without the old-fashioned confines of a TV schedule.
Watch one movie while recording two others and tape up to 300 hours of cinema
or sports on an integral hard disc.
In fact, with a PVR, if you’re watching a big match live and the phone
rings you can freeze the action and then continue after the call without missing
a single second. PVR technology puts the viewer in control and naxoo is the
network to meet those expanding demands. |
