World-renown physician brings bespoke care to Sardinia
Crystal clear water lapping across gleaming white Sardinian sand half a mile out is reason enough to head down to Italy’s favourite island for a break. Voted the World’s Leading Resort for 17 consecutive years by the ‘World’s Travel Awards’ judges panel, Forte Village has quickly become an exclusive, all-inclusive, venue for relaxation on one of the most sought-after private beaches on the island. Child of a heavy investment project spearheaded by resort Chief Executive, Lorenzo Giannuzzi in 1995, Forte Village is revered among its peers, and likes it that way. Its strategy is straightforward: bring in the best there is in every sector, and pay it forward to a growing wallet of loyal guests.
No less than 21 restaurants studded with Michelin-starred chefs, set among 47 acres of lush gardens, eight hotels, six luxury villas with private pools, and upward of 40 suites have made the resort what it is today. Throw a handful of luxury boutiques into the mix with sleek tags that read Gucci, Dolce&Gabbana, and Zegna, and the excuses not to go start dwindling fast.
In addition to the relax-and-indulge kind of luxury, Forte Village is host to 10 elite sport academies, among which the Chelsea Football Academy. From May to October, training courses boast sessions with a Blues professional, following official training schedules used by the British team. This year, former Blues champions Paulo Ferreira and Tore Andre Flo were guest coaches.
Pro sport, meet pro medicine
Starting in 2014, a two-year investment project was launched to expand the Village’s Acquaforte Spa offerings, which has a unique thalassotherapy pool circuit. The circuit, developed by Dr. Angelo Cerina and the Experimental Thalassotherapy Centre of the University of Milan, incorporates varying sea water temperatures and levels of salinity into six different pools, the first two of which are known for their warm ‘sea oil’ environment that feels something like cocooning in the Dead Sea. The benefits are many, led by a draining and detoxing effect that solves swelling and oedema issues, and promotes an overall feeling of lightness.
Back to back
The new investment project welcomes the health professional, Professor Pier Francesco Parra, to its new Sports Medical Centre this year. Internationally applauded for his work with top-ranking athletes, such as Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams, Dr. Parra (aka Doctor Laser) developed a unique laser therapy while treating muscle-tendon conditions in elite sport. The physician leads the Medical Centre FIT (Italian Tennis Federation) and is Medical Director for the Davis and Fed Cups national teams, among other sport entities. He brings a three-day Backache Laser Therapy programme to Forte Village guests who suffer from disc disease, which can be coupled with a relaxing spa treatment and nutritional regimen.
His anti-inflammatory treatment has a neoangiogenesis effect that reduces compression, a common condition synonymous with sport, where repetitive micro- and direct traumas trauma are an every day occurrence. Among the disorders most effectively treated by Doctor Laser’s method are muscle and tendon injuries, joint and ligament issues, cartilage, bone pathologies, and more.
